Celebrating the Successful Launch of the Research Centre for Creative Arts and Public Value (RCCAPV)

On October 30, 2023, The Education University of Hong Kong proudly launched its new Research Centre for Creative Arts and Public Value (RCCAPV) at the iconic EdUHK West Kowloon Study Centre (Austin Road) located in Xiqu Centre. The event brought together distinguished academics, industry leaders, and creative practitioners to celebrate this exciting milestone in advancing arts and public engagement.

The afternoon began with a warm welcome from a heartfelt video message from Prof. Chetwyn Chan, Vice President (Research and Development) of EdUHK, which highlighted the university’s commitment to fostering innovative research that bridges arts, health, and community well-being.

Co-directors Prof. Mette Hjort and Prof. John Erni then introduced RCCAPV’s core projects, emphasizing the centre’s mission to explore creative arts’ transformative potential. A highlight was Prof. Lawrence Ng’s introduction and performance by the ‘呀吱呀咗’ choir, showcasing the vibrant cultural tapestry that RCCAPV aims to nurture.

The ceremony featured a series of inspiring presentations, including clips from the UK-based Shout at Cancer Choir, led by Dr. Thomas Moors. Their collaborative work with filmmakers and researchers was showcased, illustrating the centre’s commitment to innovative artistic research. A lively roundtable discussion followed, where panelists examined the impact of the arts on health, creativity, and research innovation.

The successful launch marks a significant step forward for RCCAPV, positioning EdUHK at the forefront of creative arts and public value research. We look forward to witnessing the centre’s future contributions to arts, health, and community development.
